Soul Retrieval
There are many different types and words for Shamanic Healing to aid us in 'dis-ease', but all are about restoring balance to our energy, our emotions and our physical bodies.  That is, they remove unwanted energy and restore lost energy.

Bringing in energy where it is missing...

An individual can ask their own Spirit Helpers for healing, or can ask a shamanic practitioner to ask his or her own spirits to help the 'patient'. This could be in the form of a Power Animal Retrieval, or a Power Retrieval, where the shamanic practitioner works with his or her own Spirits to bring the healing power through to the person who needs it.

Often, just asking for help is the first step towards healing.

One of the most well known forms of shamanic healing is the Soul Retrieval. This is because it is common to lose a part of our Soul, our energy or our power, during a difficult time in our lives and feel incomplete, lost or unwell as a result.  By being reunited with the missing soul part we regain our missing energy.  Traditionally the Shaman journeys to his or her Spirit helpers or teachers to travel through the Spirit World in search of a part of soul missing from the 'patient'.   This can be a subtle, gentle process restoring balance and leaving us more fulfilled, being 'clearer', with more energy, peace or feeling whole.   Or it can initiate a dramatic change our lives as we regain ownership of their life process.

Removing inappropriate energy...

Another form of shamanic work is extraction, where unwanted or excess energy can be removed.  In disease the shaman understood that energy inappropriate to health resides in the sick person.  With the help of his Spirits the shaman works to remove these unwanted energies, or to remove the cause of their presence, to restore balance to the individual.

Lots of different methods...

There are many methods used for healing.  Singing, rattling, drumming, calling and journeying are the ones most obvious to witness.  Healing can be done by a single person, or in a group - the healing boat and the 'seiğr' are extremely powerful group methods of healing - but there are many, many more.

What is most important is that the Spirits direct which is best for each person needing help.

After all, the Spirits are the ones doing the real work.
